Hydro Hosts Kansas City Stormwater Seminar
November 18 Event Will Feature Sessions on Metropolitan Area's Stormwater Management Program and the City's Treatment Requirements for Industrial Site Runoff

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - October xx, 2008 - The "Changing Face of the Stormwater Industry" seminar series, initiated in early 2008 to share knowledge and best practices in stormwater management, will hold its next session on Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008, in Kansas City, Mo.

The event, being held at the Kansas City Marriott Downtown, will feature presentations by respected academics, industry researchers and engineers. Topics will include Kansas City's stormwater management successes, the city's requirements for treating stormwater runoff from industrial sites and cost-effective assessment techniques for stormwater management.

The seminar series aims to bring regulators, developers and solution providers together to discuss best practices and the frequently changing regulations pertaining to stormwater management.

The conference will feature a presentation by Dr. Deborah O'Bannon, an Associate Professor of Civil & Mechanical Engineering at the University of Missouri -Kansas City. O'Bannon will provide attendees with an overview of the successes of Kansas City's stormwater management program.

Other confirmed speakers include the following:

  • Dr. Jing Tao, of the Kansas City Water Services Department, will discuss the City's requirements for managing runoff from industrial sites.

  • Christina Luebbert, of Shafer, Kline, and Warren, Inc., will speak about being "Behind the Eight Ball" on the Phase II implementation of Kansas City's Municipal Stormwater Program.

  • Kwabena Osei, Research & Development Manager of Hydro International, will speak about the upflow filtering technology and how it is being used to treat stormwater.

  • Andrew Erickson, Research Fellow at the University of Minnesota's St. Anthony Falls Research Lab, will speak about cost-effective stormwater BMP assessment methodologies.

The half-day conference on Nov. 18 starts with registration at 7:45 a.m., followed by the educational presentations from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and lunch. The conference is sponsored by Hydro International.
