Hydro International Celebrates Advances in Corporate Environmental InitiativesCompany Achieves ISO 14001 Designation Milestones, Measures Carbon Footprint and Raises Money for WaterAid Charity PORTLAND,Maine - July 9, 2009 - Hydro International, a leading provider ofenvironmentally sustainable products and innovative solutions that control andtreat stormwater, wastewater and combined sewer overflows, today announced astring of corporate initiatives that advance Hydro's goal of being the mostenvironmentally friendly supplier in the water sector. Over the past year, Hydro International has completeda baseline assessment of its corporate carbon footprint, implemented anEnvironmental Management System in accordance with ISO 14001 within its U.K.operations, and continued to raise fundsfor its designated charity: WaterAid. The roll-out of the environmental management system isin place across the company's U.S.and Irish operations. The company's U.K.wastewater business in Ely and its U.K. stormwater business inClevedon have achieved ISO 14001 certification. ISO 14001 is a standard forenvironmental management systems aimed at reducing the environmental footprintof a business and decreasing the pollution and waste a business produces.Hydro's U.S. wastewater businessin Hillsboro, Oregon,and its U.S. stormwaterbusiness in Portland, Maine, have achieved ISO 9001 certificationand are on track to achieve ISO 14001 certification by June 2010. The company has completed a joint project with Bristol Universityin the U.K.to establish a baseline carbon footprint of its worldwide operations. Hydro iscurrently implementing operational changes to reduce waste, energy consumption,water usage and vehicular and air travel to reduce its negative environmentalimpacts and carbon footprint. Hydro hosted a June 6 eventin Clevedon, England, to raise funds for WaterAid,an international nonprofit organization dedicated to helping people escape the poverty anddisease caused by living without safe water and sanitation. The event, called "It's a Knockout 2009," included a full program ofgames and sports competitions. In the three years Hydro has served as host, the"It's a Knockout" program has raised nearly £10,000 for WaterAid. Also, onFriday, July 10, Hydro International employees will hike Oregon'sMount Hood in support of WaterAid.
