Hydro Filterra® Goes Down a Storm at 2009 Rushlight Awards
img_1492_web.jpgHydro International is celebrating after taking home the Water Environment Award at the 2009 Rushlight Awards. The accolade was presented for Hydro’s Filterra® system, an innovative new SUDS-compliant bioretention and biofiltration device, which improves stormwater runoff quality while enhancing urban street scenes.  The annual Rushlight Awards are a celebration of new technology, innovation and best practice across the whole environmental spectrum for organisations throughout the UK and Ireland. The 2009 awards and gala dinner took place on the 28th January at the Grand Connaught Rooms in Covent Garden, London.  Set to revolutionise the management of stormwater runoff, the Hydro Filterra®, which looks like a traditional tree box, utilises indigenous trees, shrubs or grasses to deliver an aesthetic solution for hard landscaped inner city streets.   Alex Stephenson, Hydro Stormwater director, commented: “We are thrilled to have been awarded the Rushlight Water Environment Award. It really is testimony to the innovative design of this functional and natural yet aesthetic solution to surface water treatment.    filterra_uk_-_with_scene_and_arrows_1.jpg“The Filterra® system offers a small footprint stormwater treatment device that provides an economical and space-saving alternative to conventional biofiltration cells. It demonstrates how a mix of ‘natural and ‘engineered’ SUDS elements can improve traditional design practices to offer a more suitable solution for space-limited urban environments, delivering a unique solution for city planners, architects and developers.”
