History

Over the past 40 years, Hydro International has grown to become a leading worldwide supplier of specialty wet weather and wastewater treatment equipment. Hydro International’s products have evolved from simple vortex overflows to advanced hydrodynamic vortex separators and flow controls, self-cleansing screens and up-flow filters.

 

 1960's Hydro International’s founding father Bernard Smisson conducts pioneering work on vortex solids-liquid separation
 1974 The American Public Works Association Research Foundation awards Bernard Smisson the Award of Merit for his contributions to the development of the United States Environmental Protection Agency swirl concentrator
 1980 Hydro International is founded in Clevedon, England  
 1986 The American headquarters of Hydro International is incorporated in Portland, Maine
 1994
Hydro International goes public as Hydro International plc on the London Stock Exchange    
 1995
Hydro constructs a world class stormwater and wastewater hydraulics testing facility in Portland, Maine
 2000
Hydro International is awarded the Millennium Product Award for the non-powered, self cleansing Hydro-Jet® Screen for combined sewer overflows
 2003
Hydro International  is awarded the IWEX “Contributions to Environment and Sustainability” Award
 2003
Hydro International is awarded ISO 9001 – 2000  
 2005
Irish operating subsidiary HRD Technologies Ltd is established, offering the full Hydro International stormwater and wastewater product lines to Ireland
 2005 Hydro International acquires the Vexamus Water Group, more than doubling its wastewater product offering in the United Kingdom and Ireland
 2006 Hydro International launches the Up-Flo® Filter for stormwater treatment
 2006 2006Hydro International wins the Excellence in Environmental Design award from the Environmental Business Journal for the design of the Up-Flo® Filter
 2008 Hydro International acquires Eutek Systems, Inc. of Hillsboro, Oregon.
