Stormwater Seminar Coming to Harrisburg, Pa. on April 30th

PORTLAND, Maine — Hydro International today announced plans to bring the company’s half-day educational stormwater conference series to Harrisburg, Pa., on April 30, 2008.

“The Changing Face of the Stormwater Industry” conference series includes a speaker program focused on presenting solutions to the challenges presented by the rapidly and frequently changing regulations pertaining to stormwater management.   Harrisburg speakers will include a wide variety of experts from government regulatory agencies, consulting engineers, academia and Hydro International itself.

The Harrisburg conference will be held at the Hilton Harrisburg Hotel with registration opening at 7:45 a.m., followed by the educational presentations starting at 8:30 a.m.

The conference will feature Dennis Stum from the Bureau of Watershed Management at the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. Stum will discuss how the changing stormwater regulations in Pennsylvania will affect property developers, engineers and public entities. Pennsylvania is one of the first states to participate in the Technology Acceptance Reciprocity Partnership (TARP) which sets a specific criteria and protocol for the use of stormwater BMPs.

 Other confirmed speakers include:

Shawn Fabian CPESC, CET, an E&S and NPDES Permitting Specialist in the Land Development division of RETTEW based in Lancaster, PA, will speak about stormwater BMP selection for proper site design.  Having more than seven years of experience in erosion and sediment (E&S) control, he performs E&S plan preparations and revisions. He also provides quality assurance/quality control and technical guidance to land development staff through all of RETTEW’s offices regarding stormwater best management practices.

Dr. Robert Andoh, Director of Innovation for Hydro International will speak about innovative and sustainable approaches to the design and implementation of integrated stormwater management schemes.  He is a fellow of the Chartered Institute for Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) and draws upon 30 years experience in the stormwater and urban water sectors. He has written, presented and published a wide variety of papers on best practices in the industry.

Shirley E. Clark, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Environmental Engineering at Penn State – Harrisburg (PSH). She is a member of several professional organizations (WEF, AWRA, ASCE/EWRI, and AEESP) and serves on various committees in WEF and EWRI. Her research interests include the interaction between environmental stressors and the health of water bodies, and the use of structural and non-structural stormwater control technologies to improve the quality of runoff

Pat Davison, NSF Project Coordinator and Tom Stevens, Pilot Manager with NSF (National Sanitation Foundation) International, will speak about the NSF’s experience administering the US Environmental Protection Agency’s Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) program for stormwater BMP performance assessment.

“We are excited to have such high-level speakers joining us to bring this educational seminar series to Harrisburg ,” said Dave Mongeau, General Manager of Hydro International’s U.S. Stormwater Division. “The stormwater industry is changing quickly, with new practices and new regulations taking hold, and we’ve found that people in Pennsylvania are looking for ways to share information. We believe our stormwater conference series will provide a vehicle for timely and open discussion.
